Ingredients and values

What is really inside LUMIMI — and what is deliberately left out.

Are all LUMIMI products 100 % vegan? What does that mean?

Yes. LUMIMI cosmetics are formulated without ingredients of animal origin. In practice this means our formulas contain no beeswax, lanolin, carmine (CI 75470), silk proteins, honey or other animal-derived substances that are still very common in colour cosmetics — in lipsticks or mascaras, for example.

Instead we choose plant-based and synthetic alternatives: plant waxes and oils (jojoba, olive), plant-derived squalane, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, peptides, vitamin E and botanical extracts. Even the bristles of our makeup brush are synthetic — no animal hair.

Two things are worth distinguishing: “vegan” is about the ingredients, while “not tested on animals” is about how the product was developed and tested. LUMIMI follows both principles (see the next question).

Are the products and their ingredients tested on animals?

No. Neither LUMIMI products themselves nor their ingredients are tested on animals — not by us, not on our request, and not on our behalf.

This is not only our principle but also the law: the EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 bans animal testing of cosmetic products and their ingredients sold in the European Union. All LUMIMI products are notified in the EU Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP), and every product information file (PIF) has a dedicated animal-testing section — we require confirmation from our manufacturers that none took place.

Safety is proven in other ways: through the toxicological data of every ingredient, laboratory stability and microbiological tests, an independent safety assessor’s report and a dermatological review of the formulas.

Manufacturing and quality

From an idea to the product in your hands — how every LUMIMI product is born and tested.

Where are LUMIMI products made?

LUMIMI is a Lithuanian brand. It is created by, and the responsibility of, Eucommerce, MB in Vilnius. Under the EU Cosmetics Regulation we are the responsible person for every product: we answer for its composition, safety, labelling and notification in the EU Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP).

Manufacturing itself takes place in specialised partner factories that work to the Good Manufacturing Practice standard (GMP, ISO 22716) and produce colour cosmetics for international brands. Our mascara, for example, is made in a laboratory that has specialised solely in mascaras for more than 22 years.

Every batch is produced only according to samples and specifications we have approved. The manufacturer may not change the formula or quality requirements without our consent, and we have the right to inspect the production line on site.

How does the manufacturing process work — from formula development to the finished product?
  1. Idea and requirements. We define what the product must do (for example, a foundation must adapt to the skin tone and never look like a mask), which active ingredients it must contain and what it must not contain.
  2. Formula development. The chemists of our partner laboratories create the formula to our brief — usually several versions of it. Laboratory engineers help select the raw materials, texture and technology so the formula is stable and pleasant to use.
  3. Samples and testing. We test the samples ourselves, with a cosmetologist and with real users: texture, wear, shades, feel on the skin. We refine until the result satisfies us. Production starts only after the final sample is approved.
  4. Formula review with a dermatologist. We review every product’s composition with a dermatologist — whether the formula suits sensitive skin and whether it contains any irritating or unnecessary ingredients. If needed, the formula is adjusted.
  5. Safety documentation. Laboratory stability, microbiological and heavy-metal tests, an independent safety assessor’s report (CPSR), the product information file (PIF) and notification in the CPNP portal. Without these, a product does not go on sale.
  6. Production and control. Made according to the approved sample under GMP conditions. In case of a quality dispute, an independent testing laboratory has the final say.
  7. Acceptance. When a batch arrives we check the products, packaging and labelling. Only then does the product enter the warehouse and the shop.
How are raw materials and active ingredients selected?

Every ingredient has to pass three filters — safety, efficacy and feel.

  • Safety. We use only ingredients permitted by the EU Cosmetics Regulation, at permitted concentrations. Raw materials are registered under REACH, fragrances comply with IFRA standards, and the toxicological profile and exposure of every ingredient are evaluated by an independent safety assessor.
  • Efficacy. We choose actives with proven effect at meaningful concentrations: niacinamide, plant-derived squalane, peptides, hyaluronic acid, panthenol (provitamin B5), vitamin E, centella, aloe and oat extracts.
  • Skin comfort. LUMIMI is hybrid makeup, so a formula must not only cover but also care: not clog pores, not irritate, and suit sensitive skin. The formulas are reviewed by a dermatologist.
  • Values. No ingredients of animal origin and no animal testing — always.
Which quality and safety tests do the products pass before going on sale?
  • Stability tests. The product is kept for 90 days at room temperature, at 45 °C and in daylight — colour, odour, pH and consistency must stay within specification.
  • Microbiological tests. Total microbial count and the absence of pathogens (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, E. coli) are checked, as well as preservative efficacy according to the European Pharmacopoeia — so the product stays safe throughout its use.
  • Heavy-metal control. Arsenic, mercury, lead, tin, cadmium and nickel are tested against the limits applied in the EU. Packaging materials are tested too.
  • Packaging compatibility. 12-week tests at different temperatures (from −15 °C to 40 °C), in light and in temperature cycles — so the packaging does not affect the contents.
  • Safety report (CPSR). An independent, qualified safety assessor evaluates the formula under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 and concludes that the product is safe to use.
  • Dermatological review. A dermatologist evaluates the formulas from a dermatological perspective so that they suit even sensitive skin.
  • CPNP notification. Before the first sale, the product is notified in the EU Cosmetic Products Notification Portal.
Who develops the formulas and what guides the choice of ingredients?

A formula is teamwork. The LUMIMI team defines the concept and requirements: what the product must do, how it should feel on the skin, which ingredients it must contain and which it must not. The chemists and engineers of our partner laboratories, specialised in colour cosmetics, create and refine the formula to that brief.

The decisions are checked by three independent perspectives: a cosmetic safety assessor (PhD in pharmacy), a dermatologist — LUMIMI’s scientific advisor — and real users. Customer feedback flows back into the next versions of formulas and shades — it is our most important compass.

When choosing ingredients we rely on the EU Cosmetics Regulation and SCCS (the EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety) guidelines, the scientific data on each ingredient and our own principle: every product must not only beautify but also care for the skin.

About LUMIMI

Why we are the way we are.

Why did you choose the hybrid direction — makeup plus skincare?

Because the women we know don’t want to choose between beautiful makeup and healthy skin. Traditional colour cosmetics often cover but don’t care, while skincare cares but doesn’t cover. So every day you layer more and more products — and still feel the mask effect.

A hybrid product does both at once. The LUMIMI foundation adapts to your skin tone while hydrating with niacinamide, squalane and peptides. The concealer covers and nourishes with squalane and plant oils. The lip products give colour and moisturise. The result — fewer layers, fewer products, a faster routine and skin that feels comfortable all day.

This is the “beauty without compromise” philosophy from which LUMIMI — “my light” — was born. Read more about us here.
